Before Your First Session
5 things to prepare for your first session...
How to make the most from our time together.
Take time to reflect one what it is you want to achieve through our work together, in the counselling space.
Write some notes before hand about specific challenges or issues that you have been struggling with; things you would like to address.
Jot down any questions you may have for me, as your counsellor. These may include my background, methods and scope of practice, and what the counselling structure may look like.
Get yourself a notebook, and bring it with to every session, along with your favourite pen. I often give my clients worksheets to complete, and reflections may be done in your counselling journal. This is a great way to track our work, and your progress.
Dress comfortably and warmly for appointments. We may sometimes do relaxation or breathing exercises, and restrictive clothes or jewellery may cause feelings of muscular tension or stress. The purpose is to feel COMFORTABLE.
